It's hard to say for sure, but it sounds like Schrödinger's cat may have become roadkill. (Is it Track 29, specifically, which is put into the box? That would have flattened him nicely.)
Also uncertain, but the photocopier part seems to be a separate issue. Were you having scanner trouble at some point past -- say, around 1066?

I concur with mudshark on all points. Maybe, instead of a gun or poisonous gas, the question involved putting the box in an intersection or something.
