A Musical Fiver.
Just been listening to some music today, and as I was a little bored, was trying to find new songs I might like. I found out that:
A- I really do not like 'The Beach Boys' (Except 'California Dreaming' which I think is just amazing) B- Elvis has more songs than I remember him having 10 years ago. Is everyone sure he hasn't slipped some out when no-one wasn't looking...? And C- The Electric Light Orchestra have a utterly fantastic song called 'livin' thing', which I had not heard till today. All in all a good day. But what other songs are there people are really great? I'm gonna put up 5 songs that are my fav, and if others do that, then we can have a little song swapping fun. Think of it a 'Desert Island Discs'. Just Shorter. 1. Enya - Carribean Blue 2.Texas - In Demand 3.Nelly Fortardo - Try 4.Madonna - The Power Of Goodbye 5.Frank Sinatra - I've got you under my skin. Thats mine. Yours?

You already got Enya on there. But if you want good Christmas music, Trans Siberian Orchestra. BAM. Nuff said.

Wow, reduce things to five songs...lemme think...
1) Tenacious D - (Tribute To) The Greatest Song In The World Everybody should know this song. EVERYBODY. 2) Apollo 440 with Elizabeth Gray - Stealth Mass in F sharp minor Absolutely amazing combination of electronical sounds and a great voice. 3) Origa - Inner Universe The opening theme to Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex. This is, hands down, my absolute favourite when it comes to TV themes. It combines English, Russian and Latin (!) lyrics with really good electronica. 4) Harry Gregson-Williams - Metal Gear Solid 3 Theme Six and a half minutes of one of the most talented movie composers working his magic on the iconic MGS theme. At the end, it even includes a setting where the piece is played, among other things, on a Spanish guitar. Haunting. 5) The Tea Party - Paint it black While I have a lot of classic rock on my playlist (or covers thereof), this one sticks out. I know this'll sound emo, but there's a certain pain inherent to the song, and it comes out best in this version. Maybe because it's hurt *and* angry. --- There's so much more I need to cite here - more electronica, more hip hop, more rock, more classical stuff -, but I think this is a decent sample for now. I doubt many people listen to what I do.
It's a unique mix of pop, electronica, J-pop, J-Rock, Eurobeat (blame my sister), punk, goth, classical, video game, and various other things that should never go together. So be warned. I'm going to pick five random songs from my Winamp favorites. ...Some might not be in English. 1. Superman, Five for Fighting This song is just awesome. If you don't know it by now, go get it. 2. Bring Me to Life, Evanescence It was real popular a few years ago, but...I still like it. 3. Everything to Everyone and Overwhelming, Everclear ...What? 4. Utada Hikaru, First Love Damn. Haven't heard this in a while. Anyways, it's very sweet. Translation here. 5. Doobee Doowop Communication, babamania CRACK SONG. No full translation (or even printed lyrics) exists. There's only partials here and there. It's in like four languages. This song was very obviously written on acid or something. It's rumoured that anyone who tries to translate the whole thing will go insane. (Most sane people wouldn't listen to all of this. Which is why I say with confidence that I am going to attempt to translate the last song.)

The problem is, for me it just varies so much. What I love today will not be what I love a month from now (though Glenn Miller is and always will be a constant).
So, let's say: 1. Glenn Campbell - Wichita Lineman (He's a lineman for the county, you know.) 2. Franz Ferdinand - 40' Minimalist lyrics, but great all the same. 3. Beach Boys - California Girls And I don't know why - this one is definitely subject to change. 4. Glenn Miller - Begin Beguine It's... pleasantly melancholy. 5. Nina Simone - My Baby Just Cares For Me For that middle piano section alone I love it. No doubt now I've finished I'm going to go away and think of three times that number that could be on that list. Ah well.

5. "I Am The Walrus" - odd, but quite good.
4. "That Certain Party" as sung by Billy Jones and Ernest Hare - stream of consciousness nonsense. Do not attempt to listen to while already in wyrdness. 3. "Waterloo Sunset" by The Kinks. 2. "Mood Indigo" - great for unwinding to. 1. "Sunny Afternoon" by The Kinks (again).
