Default Off-site special: Five-Minute Garfield

You could not be blamed for concluding that this site died of coronavirus. (We ARE really old in internet years...) But we're still around, and there's stuff coming.

More important, there's something already here! NAHTMMM is a contributor to Square Root of Minus Garfield, a sort of collaborative Garfield parody site with a name designed to appeal to this mathematician. (If you know anything about online parodies of Garfield, you will go in expecting Dada, and you won't be disappointed.) Anyway, a while ago Nah asked permission to do a Five-Minute Garfield for that site, which I granted, and his work has now arrived. I'm late linking to it, but as he pointed out, Labour Day is a fitting occasion for something involving the very avatar of laziness!

Click this link and enjoy. (Eventually this'll probably make its way onto 5MV too.)

It was okay. I tend to want a bit more of a cohesive plot in my fivers. Trying to condense decades into a single page means you lose a lot in the translation.

Yeah, a plot-of-the-week comic strip was a very different challenge. Liz provides a little continuity, as does the gag that Garfield is eating everyone (partly why it takes so long for Jon to ask where Lyman got to, I wanted to space those out).

The worst part about putting this together was replacing the space shuttle with just satellites.

I used to read quite a bit of Garfield, especially the early stuff - first year, etc. My one piece of constructive feedback is that it seems to focus quite a bit on the early stuff. Then again, Garfield hasn't been focused on anything big for years in the strip, so... maybe fitting?

Now that the forum is less secretive, I saw this post.

And I liked this!

Getting all those tiny character panels must have taken AGES, but they were very expressive.
