Default Five-Minute Metroid

I know I'm always saying how far back I started working on the things I post, but this one really goes back a bit. Journey back with me to two thousand and freaking four!

There were always two huge Metroid fans here at this site: me and IJD GAF. We used to talk about the series all the time. Inevitably, the idea of fivers came up, and we made plans to do a subsite and split the games between us. (Detailed plans! I was going to do the first two, retro fan that I am, and IJD wanted Prime and Fusion. We were going to collaborate on both Super and ZM. I can't say who would've done the others because at the time, there were no others!)

Neither of us ever managed to deliver -- I can't speak for IJD, but in my case I know that a big factor was the pressure to do justice to this amazing series. But the project has never left my back burner. A few years ago, excited about Samus Returns coming out, I finally began chipping away at the fiver of the first game. And now, in the year that Metroid Dread became an actual real thing that exists, I've finished it!

Only 17 years late, here's Five-Minute Metroid. Hope you like!

(By the way, there's one scene that only fans of the greatest Metroid fan comic, Maru Mari, will appreciate. That's also of '04 vintage...)

My knowledge of Metroid is limited. I never even liked playing Samus in Smash Brothers (I prefer Link and Pikachu).

I really SHOULD HAVE guessed this. I WAS in the ballpark with that guess, but honestly I never would have gotten there, because I foolishly wasn't thinking about video game franchises!

Well done. Glad it made it out.

I chuckled several times, but this one made me GROAN:

Samus: Hey random monster, which way to Ridley?
Monster: I have a name, you lout! It's Scott to you!
Samus: Fine. Which way to Ridley, Scott?
Monster: I'm not telling. Maybe if you'd been polite -- GAK!
Samus: *rolls eyes* Aliens.

It turns out I STILL like running jokes best of all, so I am very into Samus's desire for good sounds.

Happy (belated) birthday. Yeah, I read the thread tags.

I got a chuckle, even though it's been a few years (read: 20+) since I last played a Metroid game.

Yeah, what's up with all these Xs?

Quote:
Skree: Oh no, she's heading for that pack of missiles! I must stop her! *slams into the ground and explodes*
Samus: Missiles?
Pipe Monster: We'll never let you get them! You'd kill us all! Banzai! *zooms past Samus and into a wall*
Samus: I'm starting to think I don't need them.
My favorite bit.
