Default The Non-Spoily Harry Potter Thread

Really I just wanted to acknowledge that it had been relesed.

So.. How's everyone liking it?

I am enjoying the fact this books seems to be a lot less tragic, well obviosly it IS but they don't mention it on every page.

True, I'm about half-way now... It's a really good book, a lot more emotion with Ron, I like it so far

Reading status = Page 66

I'd forgotten so many things that happened in the 5th book. Yikes.

I found a chapter-by-chapter synopsis on Wikipedia.

Oh, crafty crafty J.K. She is sneaky.

I love that in a person.

One thing I did notice in this book is how much alcohol is consumed. Wine, fire whisky, gin, two kinds of mead and butter beer. Also, there doesn't seem to be anything odd about offering someone alcohol first thing in the morning.

I'm halfway through and enjoying it immensely as usual, even though so far nothing's happened yet...

Ah, but isn't that always the way? I've only read the first three HP books so far, but one pattern I've noticed is that Rowling loves to toss out seemingly-irrelevant stuff in the early chapters and have it turn out to be tremendously important later (sometimes whole books later).

I found the sixth book rather... blah.

It completely ruined the mistique of... hmm, no spoilers.... I guess I'll just have to say "the title character".

If the seventh book does things right, then this book might be redeemed in my estimation. But as it stands, it feels rather empty. Devoid of motivation or reasoning. Just a lot of events....

I'll just have to leave it up to book seven to either elevate this one, or make my faith in the series waver.

In any case, I'm starting to believe that Rowling didn't quite have it as completely planned out from the beginning as she claims she did.

*cough*Lucas*cough*

Now having finished the book, I can say -- very much so. I must now force myself to wait a couple days before reading it again, because as soon as I turned the last page I wanted to turn the book over and start again, watching for all the stuff she planted.

Hehe, I've read so many Agatha Christie novels I've started to spot some of the seemingly-irrelevant stuff in books while reading the first time. But yes, want to read HP 6 all over again anyways, just to see the stuff all over again, to see the fine details. And I want to read the emotions all over again... it's cathartic!

In a way, it did. It also dealt far too much with the backstory overall and far too little with current happenings, in my opinion anyway. But as for mystique, I'm hoping for said character to have a chance to redeem h**self later on. I'm not willing to put any real money on it, but I'm pretty sure that will be the case.

I'm a bit iffy on this particular book... oh well, here goes: better than Chamber of Secrets, but that's not saying much as that's my personal least favorite. I guess it may be better than Philosopher's Stone, but it's a very close call. Things were a little too obvious early on - or I took a lucky guess; either could apply.
