Shadiversity redesigns the Master Sword to be a little more practical if it was used in real-life battle.
Shad does videos on how practical the arms and armor of fantasy would be in real life.

"The Sky Boat Song"
(other YouTube videos spell it "skye", but whatever) An old Irish folk song that was the inspiration for "The Inner Light." The Memory Alpha page mentions it as well. Personally, I prefer the Trek version.

Today I Found Out covers planned obsolescence, starting with light bulbs and going on to other products including ink cartridges.
Ugh, ink cartridges. I'm sure they're fine in environments where the printer is in use ALL the time, but when you only print every week or so it will jam up in the interim. I hate them, that's why I have a laserjet. If I have to print in color I just go to a library.

A discussion of movies with similar plots made around the same time.
I knew about most of these, but I'd like other opinions. In particular I'd like to know if any of you have only seen the "less popular" film in a couplet, not the one everyone remembers. For example, I saw EdTV in theater (at the moment I can't remember WHY I did, but I did), but I've never seen The Truman Show. As for the more popular ones, I saw Armageddon and not Deep Impact, Finding Nemo and not Shark Tale, etc. The only set I think I saw both of was Bug's Life and Antz.

A Cracked writer is ticked about all the fandom-specific holidays.
So apparently today is Star Trek day in celebration of the airing of the first TOS episode. Also covered are Star Wars Day, Hobbit Day, and Batman Day, but disappointingly not Towel Day. What?

Certifiably Ingame covers the various ships called Bonaventure.
Before First Contact retconned Zephram Cochrane's life, his first warp ship was the Bonaventure. I still remember it from the novel Federation which gives a very different account of his life. In that novel his first warp flight was to Alpha Centauri and back, which took a long time. It's odd, but in my youth I had incorporated various bits of TAS lore into my personal definition of "canon" without actually watching the show, mostly thanks to novels like Federation. I read the novelizations of the TAS episodes (the Star Trek Logs by Alan Dean Foster) before I even knew that TAS was a thing that existed, I thought the Logs were just more stories based on TOS.

Appearances of the English alphabet in Star Wars.
Apparently Arabic numbers also appear on Tatooine. This seems odd to me, as I would think that Lucas would be more uptight about worldbuilding like this. I can totally buy Gene Roddenberry claiming that all English in Trek is really "Federation Standard" being translated for our benefit, but not Lucas. Furthermore, none of the English text shown in the video above seem "necessary for viewer understanding." Why have it be English in the first place?

It's Talk Like A Pirate Day again! The 25th anniversary, in fact, but of course it really didn't take off until they asked Dave Barry to write a column about it in 2002.
I'll skip the links this time, you can look them up if you want. * Long John Silver's is giving away free fish to pirate-talkers. One piece to those who just talk like a pirate, two pieces if you dress like a pirate, too. * Steam is having a sale on pirate-themed games. * A few pirate-themed games are having their own deals in honor of the day.

Spock's Memory Alpha page
I just found it interesting that his marital status is listed as "Divorced" when that's not really accurate. While he and T'Pring were more than engaged, less than married, I definitely got the feeling that they weren't officially married until Spock ringed the gong, which T'Pring prevented. If you follow the novels, you'd know the real answer is "married", to Saavik. And by the by, he has his son Zar, daughter-in-law Wynn, and an unborn grandchild.

A group of informational YouTubers play "The Miscommunication Game" (it's just a variant of the old game Telephone where A describes to B, who draws a picture for C, who describes it for D, etc.)
I'll definitely have to check out some of the channels that I didn't already know about.

A roundup of cancelled Star Trek toys from the STTMP era.
The one that confuses me is the Vulcan shuttle that docks directly to the bridge playset. Well, that and the bridge that has an elevator to a sickbay above it. There's nothing above the bridge except the turbolift passthroughs!

The Reversed Chocolate Chip Cookie
Chip-shaped bits of cookie in a chocolate disk. This seems like way too much chocolate in one place. When I saw the name I was thinking a chocolate cookie with cookie batter-flavored chips.
