And here's "Doctor's Orders." Fans of a certain videogame series that IJD GAF and I are freaks about will enjoy this one.[/color:post_uid0]

Can't figure out the third Insectoid line, but other than that...

BWAHAHAH!

Now if only Samus really made a cameo at Enterprise...

Not knowing the game probably hurt my appreciation, but oh well.

[quote:post_uid0]Knight: The candidate pauses.[/quote:post_uid0]
Heh. [i:post_uid0]The Court Jester[/i:post_uid0] is a funny movie.[/color:post_uid0]

[quote:post_uid0][i:post_uid0]So, at T'Pol's insistence, I've stayed awake. The hallucinations have continued....[/i:post_uid0]
[b:post_uid0]Tom Paris:[/b:post_uid0] Help! Help! I'm on fire!
[b:post_uid0]Phlox:[/b:post_uid0] Blow it out your ear.
[i:post_uid0]....but I've gotten somewhat better at dealing with them.[/i:post_uid0]
[/quote:post_uid0]

LOL. I was hoping you'd include some sort of "One" reference. Lord knows the writers did...[/color:post_uid0]

[quote:post_uid0]Archer: Could you handle being the One running the ship for a while?[/quote:post_uid0]

How about that one?

Gatac[/color:post_uid0]

Zeke 06-05-2004 10:50 PM

There's also One in the blurb: "Phlox learns that One is the most hallucinogenic number."[/color:post_uid0]

Scooter 06-06-2004 12:20 AM

[quote:post_uid0]Archer: I'm trusting you with my ship, Doctor. I know you can handle it. Especially since I activated your Emergency Command Phloxogram subroutine.
Phlox: You can count on me, sir. Now lie back and relax. Don't worry -- I'm an expert on anesthaesia.
Archer: AAAAAA! SPIDERS! SPIDERS EVERYWHERE!
Phlox: Whoops, that was arachnophobia.
[/quote:post_uid0]

ROTFL :D

*still laughing*

[quote:post_uid0]T'Pol: I will be glad to get some rest. Perhaps my hair will return to normal.
Phlox: Well, here we are at your -- oh, look. You've been here regenerating in your alcove the whole time.
T'Pol: Shocking and unexpected.
Phlox: Yep. [/quote:post_uid0]

Ha ha ha, yeah, I thought this plot sounded a little familiar :D[/color:post_uid0]

[quote:post_uid0]Mayweather: Now, pay very close attention. See the flashing red light here?
Phlox: Yes?
Mayweather: I want you to figure out what it means and tell me when I wake up. [/quote:post_uid0]Heh.
[quote:post_uid0]Phlox: ...fifty-eight, fifty-nine, sixty! Sixty-one....
The situation also allows me to go skipping rope down the corridors whenever I please without fear of discovery. [/quote:post_uid0] :D
[quote:post_uid0]Danny Kaye: The chalice with the palace holds the brew that is true Blue -- Labatt. Out Of The Blue.
Porthos: Ruff.
Phlox: I agree, the retro-commercialization of old movies was a bad idea. But I love this scene anyway. I'm a sucker for a good poisoning.
Mysterious Sound: THUMP
Phlox: Uh oh. That sounded mysterious. Let's pause the film and check it out.
Knight: The candidate pauses.
Phlox: Retro-interactivization was a bad idea too. [/quote:post_uid0]Hoo hoo hoo.
[quote:post_uid0]Archer's Window: Yep. Just enjoy the view. Of a SCARY MOVING SHADOW!
---------------
Phlox: I'm telling you, I saw something out there on the wing! [/quote:post_uid0]Heh. :p
[quote:post_uid0]Phlox: BRRRRRR. That was the scariest thing ever.
Archer: I think your feet are pretty stiff competition.
Phlox: Captain! No, this can't be real. People hallucinate about things they want.
Archer: Maybe you secretly want me.
Phlox: Ewwwwww! Oh Krod, the mental images! Out! Out!
Archer: Heheheh. I've owed you that since early Season 2. [/quote:post_uid0] :D

Cheese & leeches. Chicken Xindi. Seven days! Even if the game gags didn't hit for me, still well worth the ride.[/color:post_uid0]

Didn't Three Dog Night do that one? ;)[/color:post_uid0]

Scooter 06-06-2004 06:52 AM

Although being not completely awake I saw "Seven Days" and I thought first of the sci-fi time-travel series with Jonathan Lapaglia... that was a bit of a mind cramp... :)[/color:post_uid0]

Usually somebody posts the answer when I encode lines like that, but it looks like that's not going to happen this time, so I'll just tell you. :) Switch each two consecutive letters. So that third line, "Hwzaaz?", decodes as "Whazza?"

[quote:post_uid0](Gatac)

Yeah, my obsession with [i:post_uid0]The Ring[/i:post_uid0] often leads me to make needless references to it (see "Carpenter Street"). Couldn't resist in this case because Hoshi really [i:post_uid0]did[/i:post_uid0] appear with a scary disfigured face, and hey, she's Asian. The dialogue references my [i:post_uid0]Ring[/i:post_uid0] fiver.

The overwhelming parallel this episode had for me, though -- more than [i:post_uid0]Ring[/i:post_uid0], certainly more than Metroid, and maybe even more than "One" -- was to Stephen King's [i:post_uid0]The Shining[/i:post_uid0]. That's where I'm going with "Torrance," "all work and no play," and Room 217 (which is from the book; it was 237 in the movie).

You know it. Those who didn't catch that should reread Marc's very first fiver, "One." The skipping line had me rolling at the time, and it's still my nostalgic favourite Marc line. In an episode which was practically a remake of "One," how could I not pay homage to it?[/color:post_uid0]

Zeke 06-07-2004 04:24 AM

Oh, by the way, I've fixed one of the gags in the fiver (a subtle one). Can anyone spot what's changed?[/color:post_uid0]

[quote:post_uid0="Zeke"]Can anyone spot what's changed?[/color:post_uid0][/quote:post_uid0]
Yep. I wondered before why it didn't seem to add up. Still not sure what's going on here, though:
[quote:post_uid0]Phlox: Yes, yes, I'm sorry. But you can tell the other dogs you lost that bit of your tail in a fight. Besides, why did you make a "bump" sound?
T'Pol: It's his birthday. [/quote:post_uid0][/color:post_uid0]

Kira 06-07-2004 06:19 PM

You've obviously never gotten the birthday bumps. (Or at least, that's what [i:post_uid0]I[/i:post_uid0] thought the joke was.)[/color:post_uid0]

mudshark 06-07-2004 07:17 PM

Apparently, I haven't. Is it a Canadian thing, or just something us old farts don't know about?[/color:post_uid0]

When you get a bit older, it becomes the birthday beats.

Good question, and one which will have to be answered by our panel international forumgoers. The way I remember it, someone grabs your arms and legs, then violently tosses you up and down (without letting go, one hopes) once for each year. There's probably different variations.[/color:post_uid0]

Derek 06-07-2004 08:01 PM

I'm familiar with birthday spankings where you are spanked for each year. Since spanking was also a familiar punishment during those formative years, I never understood why birthday spankings were desirable.

Then again, my parents/friends/etc never attempted any on me, so maybe I missed out on some special experience.

Honestly, I always envied those kids who had their parents give them money relative to their age.[/color:post_uid0]
