I'm not sure, but I think there are a lot of computer geeks here. So what OS do you use? Linux, UNIX (...), Windows, BeOS, MacOS...or do you use a DOS command-line interface.

Me? Well, I run WinXP, but will soon switch to a dual-boot with the latest Mandrake Linux release.[/color:post_uid0]

Sa'ar Chasm 03-28-2003 11:41 PM

I have Windows M(any)E(rrors), simply because that's what the guy who pirated my OS for me had when I built my computer two summers ago. I wouldn't mind some form of UNIX-based OS, but that would require effort.[/color:post_uid0]

Derek 03-29-2003 12:10 AM

Heh. Which computer do you mean?

My main computer runs Debian GNU/Linux on it.
My laptop runs Win98.
The other two computers I have sitting around run MS-DOS. (Great for playing those old DOS games.)
...or are there three computers I have sitting around wth DOS on them?

At work, I have a computer running WinNT and another running WinXP.[/color:post_uid0]

Celeste 03-29-2003 12:10 AM

erm, I don't "own" any Operating Systems, besides the evil WinME that came with the laptop, but i've run Win95, 98, ME, and XP Pro and Home ;)

I have so many blackmarket connections.[/color:post_uid0]

MmeBlueberry 03-29-2003 12:17 AM

I run Windows 98 on mine. (No, this computer was not included on Derek's list. ;))[/color:post_uid0]

Captain Galactic 03-29-2003 12:18 AM

If you have the bandwith, go to www.linuxiso.org and download the ISO of Mandrake 9.1 or Red Hat 9.0 (the latest big distros out) and burn, baby, burn the ISO file as a disk image to a CD.[/color:post_uid0]

PointyHairedJedi 03-29-2003 01:15 AM

So far it's just been evil evil Microsoft I've been forced to use. The laptop I currently use has Windows '98, which is fairly horrible, and my PC (which still resides up in Scotland) runs on either ME or 2000 - I forget which.

Did I mention Microsoft's evilness yet?

I did?

Meh.[/color:post_uid0]

Taking the High Road, is it?[/color:post_uid0]

Things Are Good 03-29-2003 01:47 AM

I am using Windows 95. It was still relatively new when this computer was first purchased.[/color:post_uid0]

I agree, Ms. President.

(I have no clue what that means. I think it was from a [i:post_uid0]SNL[/i:post_uid0] around the time of the Presidential Elections.)[/color:post_uid0]

Wonko The Sane 03-29-2003 03:29 AM

Me? I'm using Win98 SE...which stands for SCOTTISH EDITION!

There's nothing scarier than a charge of half-naked, hairy, berserk foaming Scotsmen.

Unless they're fully naked.[/color:post_uid0]

Nan 03-29-2003 05:43 AM

I am running Winblows 98 as well, on my computer HellSPAWN.

Hell + SPAWN. SPAWN = Stupid Pansy-Arsed Wanker Nerdbox. Because it has a 166MHz processor and 32 megs of ram. Needless to say, LOTS of errors.

Mandrake'll be running Win2kpro prolly, and the Mandrake distro. Multi-boot. Booyeah. :)

Nan[/color:post_uid0]

Draknek 03-29-2003 01:09 PM

I run Linux Mandrake 8.2.

Technically it's dual boot, but the other one is Windows NT. :dead:[/color:post_uid0]

Well, I've got a confession to make guys - I'm not a computer geek. But, plenty of my friends are - like you guys :D

But - I'm using Windows XP. It's not bad, but it ain't spectacular either.[/color:post_uid0]

NeoMatrix 03-29-2003 04:00 PM

Windows XP unfortunately. Came with the computer. Its ok, but it has its cons.[/color:post_uid0]

PointyHairedJedi 03-29-2003 07:52 PM

Of which being manufactured by Microsoft is only one.

Sorry. I just had to say it.[/color:post_uid0]

Kosst 03-29-2003 08:39 PM

It's Win 98 for me. I'm sort of an "everything after 98 sucks" kinda person. I've tried XP several times and hated it, 2000 just came out with that major hacker backdoor, and ME... well, it's ME. Near as I can tell the "98 or below" opinion is pretty common among the rest of the computer nerd universe too, so I kinda use that as reinforcement. That, and that all my friends with XP, ME, or 2000 on their computers have met with inexplicable cataclysmic errors.[/color:post_uid0]

Don't let the fact that I built my own system mislead you. I had considerable help. My computer geekiness extends only to showing computer illiterates how to turn the thing on and navigate Windoze.[/color:post_uid0]
