I finally got Linux

Guess what! I installed Ubuntu. And with that, my computer is working again. *Knocks on unpainted wood* I never actually tried Linux before. It's great so far. Well, I can't seem to get some mousebuttons installed properly, and I need to redownload my mouse-gestures add-on, and a couple of other things are annoying me as well, but otherwise, it's great.

May you have better luck than I did.

Really? Congratulations.

Would I be pelted with tomatoes (or tomahtoes if you'd prefer) if I asked what the difference is between Linux and Unix?

Well not officially... Expect a post from me around December 3.

Since I've now tried both, I can honestly say that... Well, Linux is free.

Nate the Great 11-04-2007 12:56 AM

Erm, thank you...?

It's easiest to think of Linux being a type of unix, in the same way that chocolate is a type of ice cream or glass is a type of sand. Actually the best analogy would probably be like saying what's the difference between Brand X tissues and Kleenex. Put simply, Linux is nothing to sneeze at.

Okay, moving on...

Am I the only person in the forum who played "duck duck gray duck" instead of "duck duck goose" as a child?

So is there irony in the song Ironic or not? Site upon site try to answer the question, but they seem to have different definitions of "irony" to begin with.

catalina_marina 11-04-2007 12:49 PM

You're hijacking my thread. :P

I got me some mouse gestures. They're a good alternative for the extra buttons on my mouse. :)

Chancellor Valium 11-04-2007 01:41 PM

Congrats on both! :)

Nate the Great 11-04-2007 07:45 PM

Sorry, I must've thought this was the reply box for the PNQ thread. Oops.

Yup, I figured that.

Nate the Great 11-05-2007 03:21 AM

I'm as fallable as anyone. Of course some of you would say "more so!" but I hope you won't.

On a dead badger, by any chance? Also, it sounds like you're still going to have to commandeer Niels' computer for Crusader Kings, not that that's any hardship for you. ;)

Mind your PNQ, Nate.

Jack Worthing: Is that clever?

Actually, it is. Very. Kudos.

How utterly absurd. I approve.

Other animals of family Mustelidae can be used in place of a badger, but an adapter may be required. See Appendix II for details.

I don't know if I need to. Haven't tried it yet.

Yes, really.

PointyHairedJedi 12-04-2007 07:21 PM

Well, if you ever need a dead badger to have a go on, just let me know. I have... contacts.

mudshark 12-05-2007 08:40 PM

"Contacts" in this instance meaning that the road is an easy stroll from the doorstep?
