I am really looking forward to the finale -- and yet, then what am I going to do? No Doctor Who until the "Christmas Special." And then more waiting for Season 2. We need 24/7 Doctor Who. Maybe a Doctor Who channel. (sigh) Meanwhile, here in the US they can't even get Doctor Who on one of the regular channels...

Chancellor Valium 06-12-2005 02:02 PM

Ha! now you know the fun we have trying to get things like Star Trek.....

PointyHairedJedi 06-12-2005 04:09 PM

Or pretty much anything from the US, actually. Lost doesn't arrive here until August (and it's already showing on the continent in places, not to mention as far off as Singapore), and we're only now going to get to see Wonderfalls at the beginning of next month. Of course, the problem then is that it's almost always that bastard Murdoch (or more accurately Sky) that snap up the broadcast rights, which means if you don't have cable or digital or whatever you've got to wait even longer before it appears on terrestrial.

Exactly! :evil: :evil: :x :x

Yeah, but most American TV is crap, so 9 times out of 10 you're missing nothing. And a lot of times great American stuff gets lost or ignored over here, like "Firefly." Meanwhile, it's painfully easy to catch stupid reality shows like "The Real Gilligan's Island"...

But I'm glad you mentioned it. Chatting with Nic Corelli I knew that he was way behind us on "Smallville," but I didn't realize we were doing such a poor job of exporting what good TV we have.

Meanwhile I just discovered the original "Coupling," believe it or not. I've seen three episodes and died laughing, and now I have to figure out how to get that, too.

I feel like a transsexual, but instead of being a woman in a man's body I'm a Brit in a Yank's body.

Chancellor Valium 06-13-2005 10:08 AM

You must be very confused when it comes to spelling then :P

PointyHairedJedi 06-13-2005 10:23 AM

I never really liked Coupling myself, but I've heard it's far superior to the US remake, as is usually the case with such remakes (although the US version of The Office is apparently pretty good). You do have a point of course Scooter, in that most of the crap tends to get filtered out by the time it gets across to our side of the Pond, but it's still annoying to have to wait six months or a year to see just what it is that everyone is raving on about (with the very rare exception like BSG, of course). I suppose it can goe both ways though of course - none of the US networks as far as I know have yet decided they want to pick up Who. You could always move to Canada of course; I hear they've got plenty of spare room. ;)

What's funny about all this is that I did manage to see "Bad Wolf," and I was only able to appreciate the jokes because all of the game shows featured in the episode did come over here in American versions. I was a big fan of the American "Weakest Link" while it was on (Me shouting at the set: "Bank! Bank, you idiot!"), before of course they ruined it by doing too many all-celeb episodes. But thanks to American importing I was able to recognize the "Weakest Link" set, Anne Robinson's hair, and so on just as quickly as a Brit. So I was a very, very happy Yank.

And how many people have had exactly that feeling--that Anne was two seconds away from vaporizing you! Hilarious.

Very interesting DW series news:
  • Doctor Who has been renewed for a third season!;
  • Billie Piper will be in all episodes of the second season;
  • John Barrowman will be returning for a few episodes of the second season;
  • Daleks will not feature in the second season, but Cybermen will.
Very, very cool.

Chancellor Valium 06-16-2005 11:26 AM

Yes. Not so cool is that RTD thinks he's done everything he can do with the Daleks - i.e. they are utterly and completely destroyed by this coming episode........

Yes, well, the Daleks have been "completely destroyed" before (including in this Time War that also nuked Gallifrey)--so I doubt that even RTD thinks we've seen the last of them.

*shrugs* That's what he said in an interview, anyhow........

Fantastic! The third season is cool too, though it's hardly a huge shock given how successful Who has been in terms of audience share (with pretty damn decent viewing figures too).

Chancellor Valium 06-16-2005 07:31 PM

Yes, but how much of that is due to RTDs writing, and how much is due to there being bugger all on on a saturday evening....

MaverickZer0 06-17-2005 03:35 AM

It's on Saturday there? Funny, Tuesday here...ah, that's why you see them before me.

Transmission times vary from country to country, and the UK started before the others.

According to Outpost Gallifrey, transmission times are:
  • BBC1 (UK) 7pm Saturdays
  • CBC Television (Canada) 8pm Tuesdays
  • ABC (Australia), 7:30pm Saturdays
  • PrimeTV (New Zealand), July 2005
  • KBS (South Korea), 11:15pm Saturdays
  • No US Broadcaster Announced :(

And how much to major hype, which will gear up again in toime for the Christmas Special...

Though it did beat Ant & Dec usually, and that was very popular. If it hadn't beat celebrity wrestling though, that would have been humiliating.

Beating Ant & Dec though should be easy - it's a pile of dingo's kidneys....

Chancellor Valium 06-18-2005 07:54 PM

That was t3h aw3some! and I never thought I'd say that!
