Thanks, now I'll have Sting in my head all night....it's a good song, though.

Umm...that's not a Sting reference. I think... dunno. Actually, TBH, don't know who Sting is. Oh well.

Sa'ar Chasm 01-10-2006 04:53 AM

Oy, kids today.

Sting was the lead singer for the Police, notable for his absurdly high vocals. He went on to have his own non-falsetto, rather boring solo career. The high point was when he guest-starred on the Simpsons during the Well episode.

The shoe-banging and the "We will bury you" might not be the same event (I don't recall right now and it's nearly midnight). To the best of my recollection, the Soviet representative to the UN (or possibly Brezhnev, who happened to be visiting), took off his shoe and banged it on his desk to make a point, that point being that the Communist governments would bury the western capitalist democracies.

So...um...nice fiver, eh?

Thanks for the kind words guys and gals. :)

I'm working on a couple of others, but I need to wrestle Season 2 from Mom.

Hopefully soon!

Thanks again!

If I can trust my Spycraft 60's Decade book, it comes from Premier Nikita Chrushchev.

"Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you."

The song is "Russians," from "Dream of the Blue Turtles," and he's referencing Krushchev.

In Europe and America there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mister Krushchev said, 'We will bury you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It'd be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy
From Oppenheimer's deadly toy?
There is no monopoly on common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent to put
Words in the mouth of the president
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie we don't believe anymore
Mister Reagan says 'We will protect you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me and you
Is if the Russians love their children too

Too bad he didn't say "We will rock you."
